about DasFalke
Male
Steven James is an Australian born Shibari Rope Artist currently based in Berlin, Germany. He is also known by the artistic name of “DasFalke”Shibari is the traditional form of Japanese style bondage and restraint that dates back to the Edo period in Japanese history ((1603-1868) During this period it was used as a heavily stylised capture and/or interrogation practice. As Japan modernised after the Meiji Restoration the practice of formalised Shibari declined.
During the early years of the twentieth century it was essentially rediscovered by a small number of Japanese artists and their followers. It has since evolved into a multi-faceted visual art form, with definite sensual and erotic qualities and traditions.
Since the beginning of the 21st century Shibari has become increasingly well known and practiced in Europe and the USA. Until recently it has been mostly confined to the Fetish and BDSM worlds where it has undergone a rapid expansion and acceptance. Shibari now boasts tens of thousands of followers and practitioners worldwide.
There are a small number of artists who have developed their practice into a more artistic framework with the aim to appeal to a general audience. As a consequence there is a growing movement taking Shibari into mainstream areas of the art media sectors such as music video, art-photography and live performance. Steven James/Dasfalke is one of the more active Shibari Artists in this regard.
James regularly collaborates with a diverse group of photographers, video producers, and other visual artists to create stunning visual records and stand alone art pieces depicting what is essentially a transitory art form.
His primary emphasis is to either reveal the emotional and energetic effect of the bondage upon the model. Or to illuminate the emotional depth of the connection that can form between the one in the ropes, and the artist applying the ropes.
Thank you for the chance to be included on Model Society.
